Youth Area Computer Policies
- Patrons wishing to use a computer must sign-in at the Youth Services Desk.
- Youth Services computers are reserved for patrons under the age of 18. Children under seven (7) must use the computers with an adult.
- Patrons must abide by copyright, contract and other local, state, and federal laws.
- Intentional use of the Internet to access, transmit, or process obscene, adult, minor, racial or sexually harassing material is prohibited.
- Use of the Library's Internet computers for "chat" is prohibited. Chat includes instant messaging, web-based chat, and any other "real-time" computer communication service.
- Patrons are prohibited from installing, downloading, or deleting any software on library computers. Any patron access to restricted areas of the library computers' hard drives is strictly forbidden and could result in legal action.
- Appropriate library behavior must be maintained while on, or around, the computers. This includes behavior such as: keeping voices down, staying at one computer during your scheduled time, and relinquishing computers promptly when asked if you are not currently scheduled or your scheduled time has expired.
- Patrons are prohibited from tampering with any library computer equipment, including printers and mice. If the equipment is not operating properly, ask for help from the Youth Services staff. Do not attempt to fix the problem on your own.
- Please be sure to complete your
work on the computer, save your document(s), and make all necessary
prints no later than FIVE (5) minutes before closing time, as the computers
will be promptly shut down at the following times:
Monday-Thursday - 8:30 p.m.
Friday-Sunday - 5:00 p.m.

- Youth Area computers offer filtered Internet access and personal productivity programs, such as Word, Excel, and Publisher, at no cost.
- All prints/copies are 15 cents per page.
- At times, information and images on the Internet may be considered controversial. The library provides filtering software for children on the Internet computers in the Youth Services area. However, no filtering software is foolproof. It is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians to supervise the use of the Internet by their children.
- The library cautions children that they should not give personal information (such as names, addresses, age, e-mail addresses, credit card numbers, and telephone numbers) to strangers or web sites on the Internet, and encourages parents to discuss these dangers with their children.
- The Library reserves the right to limit time on the computers in order to provide equitable access to all.
- Use of the Library's Internet computers to send and receive e-mail is allowed as a courtesy; however, these privileges may be revoked at the discretion of the Senior Youth Services Librarian.
